Everyone who has worked at an office knows the hazard of leaving your special pen unsupervised. What initially seems to be an innocent question of “Do you have a pen I can borrow?” turns into months of not being able to find your special pen and having to (God forbid) write with one of those pens that came free from the Hilton Garden Inn at the last all staff meeting.
Clearly I am extraordinarily particular about my writing utensils but I feel that this freakish obsession is justified. I write really small and I need a pen that will be proportionate to the size that I am writing. Therefore, a great big honking 0.7 mm size line is no good. It would be the equivalent of a normal person writing with a Sharpie. See what I mean? Again I repeat, no good. That being said I am drawn to the 0.5 mm size lines. My favorite? The Pilot G2 0.5 mm Extra Fine Point in the blue. The black version will work in a pinch.
One day my happy little world was shattered when I received an email from my sister. The overall tone of the email is gloating. Smug. Beyond smug, it’s In-Yo-Face smug. She has found the Holy Grail. A 0.38 mm Eensie-Weensie Uber Fine Point version of the pen that I love so. At this point all I could hammer out was something that resembled, “humminah humminah”. Could this be? I refuse to believe it until I can see it and witness first-hand the silky smooth ink scrawling over a plain white sheet of paper. When I finally meet up with my sister for the blessed day she is excited. Shivering with glee to show me her finding.
Some things just run in the family.

whaaaaaaaaaa...? where is your sampling of the 0.38mm pen!?!?! your .5mm is too thick too~
ReplyDeleteYou can get the 0.38mm pens from the good ol' Korean store...if you don't mind cutesy cartoons and bad Engrish written on the side.
ReplyDeleteStaples has the 0.38mm too, but you need to purchase a whole box of them, and I think that you can only get them online. That's how I came across mine anyway. I think they will ship to a store for free though. I've also seen them on Amazon, but again, you will need to get the entire box.
ReplyDeletehave you tried the Uni-ball Signo Micro 207? I have the same issue, I have very small handwriting and have found this is the best. for some reason .38 seems too fine to me.
ReplyDeleteYay! Thanks for all the tips. I definitely have hit up the Korean stationary stores (Morning Glory anyone?) for the oddly phrased cute pens. Nothing like a pink pen that writes finer than a pixie hair with the phrase, "I am happy that you do" on it. I am happy that you do? What does that even mean? Oh, Engrish.
ReplyDeletehi all! i got my 0.38mm pilot pens from staples in a set of 5~~ =) it was less than $10!!! just wanted to let you know so you dont buy entire boxes~ altho... might not be a bad idea to keep a stock of them~
ReplyDeleteOffice Max also has a pack of four 0.38mm pens (all black) and a pack of four 0.38mm pens (blue, black, red, green).
